83 NPP Parliamentary Hopefuls Cleared to Battle for Eastern Region Seats.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana's Eastern Region has cleared 83 aspiring parliamentary candidates to contest in the upcoming January 27th primaries. This follows a rigorous vetting process that saw 92 individuals initially express interest in representing their constituencies.

Among the cleared candidates, 9 are women, a testament to the party's growing commitment to diversity. However, one female aspirant unfortunately fell short during the vetting stage.

The race promises to be particularly heated in Okere Constituency, where a record-breaking six candidates will vie for the NPP ticket. In contrast, other constituencies will see between two and five hopefuls battling it out.

Interestingly, four incumbent MPs have chosen not to seek re-election, citing personal reasons. These are Kwasi Amoako-Attah (Atiwa West), Daniel Kwaku Botwe (Okere), Samuel Atta Akyea (Akim Abuakwa South), and Kwasi Boateng Adjei (New Juaben North). Their departures open up exciting opportunities for new faces to emerge and represent the party in the Eastern Region.

Regional Secretary Kofi Osei Adjei has urged all aspiring candidates to conduct their campaigns with integrity and respect, emphasizing the importance of clean competition. He also appealed to constituency executives to remain neutral throughout the process, allowing voters to choose their preferred representatives without undue influence.

With the primaries drawing closer, anticipation is building in the Eastern Region. The vetting process has concluded, and the stage is now set for a lively contest that will determine who will carry the NPP banner in the next parliamentary elections.
