Electoral Commission Reschedules District-Level Elections in 12 Regions.
The Ghana Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a revised schedule for the district-level elections in select areas across 12 regions. Originally slated for December 19, 2023, the polls for 20 electoral areas electing district assembly members and 41 electoral areas choosing unit committee members have been rescheduled for January 9, 2024.
The affected regions include:
Ashanti
Brong-Ahafo
Eastern
Greater Accra
Northern
Upper West
Upper East
Savannah
Volta
Western
Oti
Ahafo
Bono East
This decision stems from Regulation 8 of the District Level Elections Regulations, 2015 (C.I. 89) law, which authorizes the EC to reschedule elections in specific circumstances of random drawing of voters to polling stations.
However, the document, signed by Acting Head of Public Affairs, Micheal Boadu, emphasizes the Commission's commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. This rescheduling aims to ensure all necessary logistical arrangements and voter education efforts are in place for a smooth electoral process.
