Ghana Embarks on Digital Transformation to Leap Frog Development Process, Says Bawumia.

 Ghana's Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasized the crucial role of digital transformation in propelling the country's economic progress. He believes that embracing digital technologies can help Ghana "leapfrog the development process," overcome existing challenges, and enhance both economic and public sector governance.


Dr. Bawumia made these remarks while addressing participants at the 75th Annual New Year School held at the University of Ghana in Accra. The New Year School is a well-established tradition that brings together academics, public and private sector representatives, and distinguished guests to discuss critical national issues at the beginning of each year.


Speaking on the theme "Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology and Embracing Humanism for Sustainable Development," Dr. Bawumia reiterated the government's commitment to leveraging digital technologies since assuming office in 2017. He stated, "Our vision is to build a new system through digital transformation, to leapfrog the development process, overcome legacy problems, and improve both economic and public sector governance."

Ghana has implemented various digital initiatives to fuel its transformation journey. Some notable examples include:

Mobile Money: Ghana boasts one of the highest mobile money penetration rates globally, facilitating financial inclusion and cashless transactions.

National Identification System: The Ghana Card serves as a single source of identification, streamlining access to services and reducing fraud.

Digital Address System: This system provides unique addresses for every property, improving service delivery and emergency response.

Paperless Port System: Streamlining customs clearance procedures and boosting trade efficiency.
