Incumbent MP for Akuapem South constituency withdraws from 2024 parliamentary race.

Akuapem South Member of Parliament (MP) Osei Bonsu Amoah has withdrawn from the race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary slot for the 2024 general elections.

Mr Amoah, MP for Akuapem South since 2013, announced his decision in a letter to the NPP General Secretary on January 19, 2024. In the letter, Mr Amoah said he was withdrawing for personal reasons and requested that his name be deleted from the ballot paper for the parliamentary primaries.

"I write to inform you that I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for the election of a Parliamentary Candidate for the General Elections in 2024 in the Akuapem South constituency," Mr Amoah wrote. "I respectfully request that by the Public Elections Regulations, 2016, C.I. 94, my name should be deleted on the ballot paper for the election."

Mr Amoah's decision has surprised many political observers, as he was seen as a strong contender to retain his seat in the 2024 elections. He is a popular figure in Akuapem South and has been credited with several development projects in the constituency.

The party's National Executive Committee (NEC) is expected to meet in the coming days to discuss Mr Amoah's withdrawal and decide how to proceed with selecting a new candidate. The news of Mr Amoah's withdrawal is likely to have a significant impact on the race for the Akuapem South seat.

Mr Amoah was a strong contender to retain his seat, and his withdrawal has opened up the race for several other candidates. It remains to be seen who will emerge as the NPP's candidate for Akuapem South in the 2024 general elections.
