Analyst Criticizes EC and Police Preparation for Limited Registration Exercise_

Gildfred Boateng Asiamah, a Research Analyst at the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has expressed concern over the inadequate preparation of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the police for the ongoing limited registration exercise.

According to him, the EC and police were not adequately prepared, which could lead to violence and disputes during the exercise.

Asiamah noted that each election year witnesses some level of violence, and in the past, the police have been proactive in settling disputes. However, during the recent limited registration, the organization observed that both the EC and police needed to be adequately prepared. He described the preparation as "poor" and stated that the police did not appear ready to curb any form of violence.

Asiamah also criticized the EC for failing to provide sufficient education to individuals on the electoral processes, which affected the smoothness of the process. He advised the EC to improve public education to build confidence in the processes and prevent violence.

"For the Electoral Commission and other stakeholders, we clearly see that the education that was required to let people know that there are processes and procedures that they have to follow whenever they are aggrieved during the registration was not sufficient. Again, the education that we needed to build confidence in the processes, we also didn't see that," he added.
