Hopeson Adorye Granted GH¢20,000 Bail_

The Dansoman court has granted Hopeson Adorye, a leading figure in the Movement for Change, bail in the sum of GH¢20,000 with two sureties. This follows his arrest and court appearance on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Adorye was arrested after making claims on an Accra-based radio station, which went viral, alleging that dynamites were detonated in the Volta Region during the 2016 General Elections to intimidate voters and pave the way for a New Patriotic Party (NPP) win.

Independent Presidential Candidate and leader of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change, Alan Kyerematen, visited Adorye in custody ahead of his court appearance. The former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, described the arrest as politically motivated.

Speaking after the visit, Buaben Asamoa stated that the allegations against Adorye are false and unfair, adding that his detention was unnecessary and pointed to political interference.

Adorye's arrest followed an interview on Accra FM on May 10, where he claimed to be part of a plot to detonate dynamite in the Volta Region to intimidate voters in the stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He has been charged with publication of false information and granted bail with two sureties. The case is ongoing.
