Nursing Trainees Demand Answers on Delayed Allowances_

The Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association (GNMTA) is expressing frustration and disappointment over the continued delay in receiving their allowances, despite assurances from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

During a meeting on May 14, the Vice President promised that the Finance Ministry would transfer over GH¢177 million to pay allowances to nursing trainees by Thursday, May 16, 2024. However, as of now, the association has not received any updates on the payment.

GNMTA President Pascal Adombillah told Citi News, "We have had enough of this. Even the Vice President indicated that the allowance was supposed to be paid on Thursday. We have not had any information or updates regarding the payment. We have not had any update on whether the money was released to the Controller and Accountant General's Department for the students to be paid."

The association is urging the government to provide clear communication on the payment status and honor its promise to pay the allowances, which are long overdue. The delay has caused significant hardship for nursing trainees, who rely on these allowances to support their education and living expenses.
