Tragedy on Accra-Kumasi Highway: Multiple Fatalities in Bus Crash

A devastating road accident occurred on the Accra-Kumasi Highway early Friday morning, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.

The crash involved a red Scania Marcopolo bus with registration number GW 9090-18, which collided with a truck heading in the opposite direction at Atwemamena, a community located between Bunso and Akyem Asafo in the Eastern Region.

Eyewitnesses described the accident as severe, with several passengers, including the bus driver and mate, losing their lives. The mangled front of the bus was seen with a decapitated leg, a grim reminder of the tragic incident. Victims have been transported to Suhum Government Hospital for emergency care.

This tragic event is part of a disturbing trend in Ghana, where road crashes remain alarmingly frequent. According to recent statistics, 4,503 road accidents were recorded in the first quarter of this year alone, resulting in 829 deaths and 4,955 injuries.

The authorities are urged to take immediate action to address the growing concern of road safety in the country. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims, and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured.
