Two Organizations Praise Government's "Kayeyei Empowerment Programme"_

The Center for Development Initiative (CDI) and International Child Development Program (ICDP) have commended the government's innovative "Kayeyei Empowerment Programme", aimed at upskilling and empowering 5,000 head porters across the country.

The programme, a promise by the 2024 NPP presidential candidate, seeks to provide transitional job avenues and improve the socio-economic well-being of head porters. The initial training phase will commence with batches of 600 beneficiaries at Madina and Ashaiman hostel facilities, with each beneficiary receiving a seed money of GHC1000.

During the six-week training period, beneficiaries will be housed in a hostel and trained in various skills such as bead-making, decoration, soap-making, manicure, pedicure, and baking.

Executive Director of CDI, Mr. Alexis Danikuu, praised the initiative, stating that it is "laudable" and will have a positive impact on the lives of head porters. Madam Joyce Larnyo, Country Director for ICDP, also welcomed the initiative, acknowledging its potential to empower and improve the socio-economic well-being of head porters.

This programme demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting economic development.
