According to the airline's Facebook post, passengers who sustained minor injuries will receive $10,000, while those with more serious injuries will receive an advance payment of $25,000 to address their immediate needs. Further discussions will be held to meet the specific circumstances of these passengers.

The incident, which occurred on flight SQ 321, resulted in the death of a 73-year-old British passenger and injuries to over 100 people. The plane was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members when it encountered severe turbulence over Myanmar, leading to a diversion to Thailand.

Passengers described the terrifying experience, with crew and passengers not wearing seatbelts sent flying and slamming into the cabin ceiling. Hospital reports indicated spinal cord, head, and muscle injuries.

In addition to the compensation, Singapore Airlines is offering a full fare refund to all passengers on the flight, including those who did not suffer any injuries. Delay compensation will also be provided in accordance with European Union or United Kingdom regulations. The airline had earlier offered S$1,000 to all passengers to cover immediate expenses and arranged for loved ones to fly to Bangkok where requested.

The incident highlighted the importance of seatbelt practices, as airlines usually allow passengers to undo their belts during normal cruise conditions.

Singapore Airlines' move to offer compensation is in line with international regulations that require airlines to provide financial support to passengers who are injured or die while on a plane.
