Eastern Regional Minister: Police Presence to Remain in Kwahu Bepong Despite MP's Call.

Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong, who chairs the Regional Security Council, has rejected calls for the immediate withdrawal of police personnel deployed to the community. This decision comes in response to a suggestion by Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Opoku-Ansah, who believed withdrawing police would ease tensions.

On Tuesday, Minister Acheampong visited Kwahu Bepong to assess the situation and ensure the restoration of law and order. He first visited the palace of Nana Nyarko Bawuah II, which was attacked and vandalized. The chief commended the Ghana Police Service for their professionalism, particularly their swift intervention to prevent a lynching.

Minister Acheampong then met with police personnel deployed from Accra to reinforce security. He emphasized the importance of maintaining their presence to restore and maintain peace amidst ongoing tensions. He deemed it "premature" to withdraw officers at this stage.

The Minister also visited the homes of victims to offer condolences to their families and later visited Atibie Government Hospital, where two injured residents are receiving treatment.

This decision by the Minister reflects the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Kwahu Bepong residents. The continued presence of police personnel aims to foster peace and prevent further violence.
