Health Minister Urges Nursing Trainees to Support Government Despite Allowance Arrears_

Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has appealed to nursing trainees to support the Akufo-Addo administration despite the ongoing issue of unpaid allowances.

Speaking at the presentation of a bus donation to Lekma Hospital on May 20, 2024, Dr. Okoe Boye acknowledged the government's efforts to clear outstanding payments and contrasted this with the previous administration's stance on trainee allowances.

The Minister emphasized that the current government has made significant efforts to pay allowances to thousands of nurses, although some arrears remain. He criticized the former administration led by John Mahama, stating that it failed to provide any allowances to nursing trainees for eight years.

Dr. Okoe Boye reassured the trainees that the government is committed to resolving the issue and ensuring all outstanding allowances are paid. He highlighted that the Ministry of Finance has paid GH¢177 million for over 100,000 nurses, covering four months of payments.

The Minister's appeal comes after Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia was confronted by a nursing trainee over the status of their allowances, assuring that payments will be made.

Dr. Okoe Boye's statement emphasizes the government's commitment to supporting nursing trainees and addressing the outstanding allowance issue.
