Mahama Urges Churches to Speak Out on Electoral Challenges_

John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has appealed to the Christian community to voice their concerns about the issues affecting the 2024 election.

Speaking with the Christian Ecumenical Council on Monday, Mahama expressed reservations about the recently concluded Ejisu by-election and the ongoing limited voter registration process.

He emphasized that the church has a duty to raise awareness about the challenges facing political systems and champion neutrality and support for a free and fair election. Mahama criticized the appointment of politically exposed individuals to positions of trust, such as the Electoral Commission, citing examples of former party communicators and TESCON patrons now serving as Commissioners.

He urged the church community to remain vigilant and ensure the right actions are taken to reflect the will of the people in the election outcome. Mahama stated, "We aim to awaken the conscience of the nation... We will raise the red flags whenever we perceive that things are not proceeding as they should."

This appeal highlights the importance of interfaith engagement in promoting democratic values and ensuring a credible electoral process.
