Peace Council Urges Ghanaians to Protect Peace Ahead of Elections_

The National Peace Council has appealed to Ghanaians to cherish and safeguard the country's current peace and security as the December 7, 2024 general elections approach.

Speaking at the launch of the National Election Response Group (NERG), Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, a board member for the Peace Council, emphasized the importance of independent state agencies working together to ensure peace before, during, and after the elections.

According to Salih, peace is crucial for socio-economic progress, and Ghanaians must prioritize it. The NERG aims to develop strategies to address violent threats to the elections and serve as a source of information on the impact of the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) national early warning system in Ghana.

The Electoral Commission has also assured its commitment to a free, fair, and transparent election, devoid of violence. Deputy Commissioner Samuel Tettey, in charge of Technical Services, gave this assurance, reiterating the Commission's dedication to a peaceful electoral process.

This appeal and assurance come as Ghana prepares for its general elections, emphasizing the need for peace and unity among citizens to ensure a successful and violence-free electoral process.
