ECG Launches Smart Prepaid Electricity Meters in Asamankese
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched Smart Prepaid Electricity Meters in Asamankese, West Akim Municipality, as part of its Lost Reduction Project. This follows the successful implementation of smart meters in six districts in the Eastern Region, including Koforidua, Nkawkaw, Suhum, Kibi, Tafo, and Oda.

According to Sariel Adobea Etwire, General Manager of ECG in charge of the Eastern Region, plans to extend the project to Mpraeso, Asesewa, Kade, Akwatia, and other areas soon.
Dr. Berlinda Yeboah Dwamena, General Manager for Lost Reduction at ECG Headquarters, urged staff to ensure a smooth implementation of the project and improve customer service by educating customers on the benefits of using prepaid meters.

The District Manager, Richard Twum Asare, explained that the project will begin with customers who consume more monthly before being extended to others. The meters will be manufactured by Gamma Power Distribution Limited.
Accounts Officer, Ebenezer Teye Korbla, revealed that about 33,000 meters will be installed in West Akim. The Smart Prepaid Electricity Meters aim to reduce lost revenue and improve efficiency in electricity distribution.
