The scheme will cover the costs at government facilities, except Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), where a philanthropist already offers a subsidy. The support for the vulnerable group is estimated to cost GH¢2.3 million for six months, while the total amount estimated to be absorbed by the scheme is GH¢4.35 million by the end of six months.

The CEO of the NHIA, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, stated that the measure is a corporate social responsibility gesture while the government works out a permanent solution.

Full actuarial studies have been conducted, indicating the scheme can absorb the costs for six months. The government has released GH¢2 million and the NHIA has allocated an additional GH¢2.4 million from its budget to support the initiative.
