President Mahama Attributes Bawku Fighting to Individuals Seeking to Derail Peace Efforts

Accra, Ghana – July 29, 2025 – President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the ongoing fighting in Bawku is being perpetrated by individuals intent on derailing efforts towards achieving lasting peace in the troubled area.

Speaking on the conflict, as reported by Joy News, President Mahama indicated that the clashes are not a reflection of a complete breakdown of peace initiatives but rather a deliberate attempt by certain elements to undermine progress. The accompanying image shows President Mahama at a podium, speaking into a microphone, with a smaller inset image depicting what appears to be a scene of burning tires and smoke, indicative of civil unrest, likely from Bawku.

The President's remarks underscore the government's perspective that while significant efforts are being made to restore stability in Bawku, saboteurs are actively working against these peace-building initiatives. This suggests a more targeted and deliberate opposition to reconciliation and peace among certain actors within the conflict.

President Mahama's statement emphasizes the resolve to address these disruptive elements and continue working towards a permanent resolution in Bawku.
