GOVERNMENT INTRODUCES TERTIARY SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR CHILDREN OF COCOA FARMERS
In a significant move to support Ghana's vital cocoa sector, the government has officially introduced a new Tertiary Scholarship Scheme for the children of cocoa farmers. The initiative, announced by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), aims to provide financial assistance for higher education, recognizing the invaluable contributions of cocoa farmers to the national economy.
This new scheme is a direct evolution of the previous COCOBOD scholarship, which historically supported students at the senior high school level. With the successful implementation of the government's Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, the focus has now shifted to tertiary education to ensure that the children of cocoa farmers have continued access to quality education beyond high school.
The scholarship is designed to ease the financial burden on farming families, providing a clear pathway for their children to pursue university, polytechnic, or other tertiary-level studies. This initiative is expected to have a profound impact on cocoa-growing communities, promoting social mobility and creating new opportunities for the next generation. The rollout of the program is set to begin in the upcoming academic year, with full implementation planned for the following year.
